Module 17 reinforces all previous work covered in Modules 1 to 16 and introduces the spelling choices and associated phonics of ‘ey’, ‘ear’, ‘-tion’, ‘-ure’ and ‘-ture’. Teachers are given strategies for helping pupils avoid the confusion of whether to use ‘ey’ or ‘y’ at the ends of words, and also the best way to teach the three different phonics of the spelling choice ‘ear’. By the time Star Skill 83 is reached, with the use of ‘-tion’, there is a massive increase in available structured vocabulary, and as with all the MSL Teaching Notes, these lists are readily available for teachers, parents and helpers to select from, for the age and interests of individual pupils.
