Module 7 includes the final individual letters from the alphabet yet to be established and these are: ‘w’ including the blends ‘tw’, ‘sw’ and ‘dw’, ‘v’, ‘x’ and ‘z’. There’s plenty of auditory discrimination work differentiating between the phonics (r) and (w) as these can often be confused. Work also includes the understanding that when ‘a’ follows the letter ‘w’ the phonic changes to (wo) as in was. Similarly, pupils learn that the use of ‘ar’ and ‘or’ after the letter ‘w’ also produces a vowel modification.
